We see chaos and strife all around us everyday, especially in the news concerning our government. God’s Word gives us clear direction concerning our role in this scenario.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Notice God was gracious to tell us why we should pray. So that we will live “peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness”. This is what we personally get from this action. We also get leaders who are being prayed for by people who trust God.
Here is the kicker, you either believe that when you pray, God hears you and acts or you don’t. If you don’t believe that, then you have issues closer to home to deal with than complaining about the government. Perhaps then, the chaos in your life isn’t a result of the politicians but rather your misunderstanding of your relationship with God and Jesus. Friends, God loves you. He wants to spend time with you in prayer. He hears you when you pray, everytime. He wants you to exercise your faith when you pray, that you will believe that when you pray the earth changes and God is at the center of that change. He wants you to put your faith in Him and His power and not in the wisdom of men (1Cor 2:5).
Pray for our leaders, mightily. Ask God to help them to be wise. Bless them and do not curse them. Do your part for your country on your knees. Change the earth and live a peaceful and quiet life.
